Silver Comet Linear Park

Address: 1301 Richard D Sailors Pkwy, Powder Springs, GA 30127

Are you looking for an outdoor gym and a place to run/walk/bike/skate? If so, this park is for you. Located along the Silver Comet Trail, you can come to this park for the workout equipment and enjoy some of the 61.5 miles of the path.

Workout space:

  • Location – The exercise equipment at this park can be tricky to find. If you drive to this park, head to the Silver Comet Trail entrance and make a left. The workout area will be roughly fifty yards down the trail on the left.
  • Shade – The fully covered outdoor gym is under a large pavilion, providing relief from the elements. Rain or shine, this is a great place to workout.
  • Ground-type – concrete

Equipment details: Most stations include a diagram and directions for proper use. Pull out your smartphone and scan the barcode to see instructional videos.

Piedmont Park

One of Atlanta’s most well-known parks has a little of everything, including an outdoor gym. Centrally located in Midtown, Piedmont Park is an in-town option with a great view of the city.

  • Location – on the south side of the Active Oval (running track) between the soccer field and Lake Clara Meer (see map for visual)

In May 2022, Jonquil Park unveiled The Fitness Court, a unique outdoor workout space. This space, which is the first of its kind in Atlanta, was made possible by the National Fitness Campaign.

Wildwood Park is a great place to incorporate bodyweight exercises while out for a trail run/walk through the woods.

  • Location – along the additional trails, just off park property (after passing through the green gates). These gates are a half-mile down the main gravel loop.
  • Shade – the woods provide a break from the sun during those hot summer months.

  • Location – along a lighted pathway, a bonus if you are a dusk/dawn exerciser
  • Shade – fully shaded by tall trees
  • Ground-type – packed gravel

Equipment details: There are eight stations for stretching and calisthenic activities, with large signs providing detailed instructions and diagrams for different skill levels.

Along the Dunwoody Trailway and around the corner from Georgetown Park, Pernoshal Park, offers multiple workout stations. You can come to this park solely to use the outdoor fitness equipment or walk/run/cycle the Trailway and break for a few exercises.

Workout space:

  • Location – behind the pavilion and basketball court alongside the walking/running path
  • Shade – some shade provided by nearby trees
  • Ground-type – some stations have a rubber ground, while others are on concrete.

Equipment details: The multiple stations provide a mixture of cardio, strength training, and endurance workouts. The equipment has instructions for the proper use and diagrams highlighting the targeted muscle groups.

You might initially overlook this park because of the small selection of exercise equipment. However, it is one end of the Dunwoody Trailway, connecting it to nearby Pernoshal Park with additional workout stations.

Note: This park has two sections, Central Square and the playground. You can enter and park at either one.

  • Location – along the pathway (Dunwoody Trailway), with a station behind the playground and another heading towards Central Square
  • Shade – limited shade
  • Ground-type – concrete

This community park has so much to offer, including one of the better outdoor workout areas we have come across. There is something for people of all ages and abilities, with (ADA) fitness equipment wheelchair accessible.

    • Location – near the front entrance, along the running/walking path that loops around the park.
    • Shade – the small trees in the area provide little shade, so don’t forget the sunscreen.
    • Ground-type – padded rubber, is a nice bonus

Equipment details: This workout area features the Energi Total Body Fitness System and two additional wheelchair-accessible (ADA) stations. Each station has large diagrams and directions for various exercises for beginner, intermediate, and advanced users.

A few blocks from Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta’s westside Vine City neighborhood, Rodney Cook Sr. Park opened on June 29, 2021. This new 16-acre park offers a large outdoor workout area with climbing boulders/rocks and a nearby basketball court.

How about working out with a view of the Chattahoochee River? At Don White Memorial Park, you can do just that. This park is also along the Roswell Riverwalk Trail, connecting multiple parks, and providing miles of trails.

  • Location – next to the pavilion and in front of the bathroom, facing the river
  • Shade – tall trees around the workout stations provide shade
  • Ground-type – grass

Equipment details: The equipment is more weathered than some of the other parks on this list. There is a sign with instructions for the proper use and diagrams highlighting the targeted muscle groups for each piece of equipment. However, we noticed some of the equipment is no longer there.

You won’t find a full outdoor gym at this park, but you can still get a great workout with the equipment available. Positioned along the wide 1.5-mile path, it’s perfect if you want to get a few upper body and core exercises done while getting in some steps or miles.

  • Shade – mostly shaded by tall trees

Ridgeview Park is a small quiet neighborhood park with a large outdoor workout area.

Westside Fitness park is a small pocket park located near Avalon along Westside Parkway in Alpharetta. The only amenity of this park is the workout equipment. There is no parking available, with the idea to stop by when out for a walk, run, or bike ride.
